Background

PSDM, registered on 11 May 2001, is a voluntary welfare organisation dedicated to the development and advocacy of the rights of individuals with Down syndrome (DS) across Malaysia. The organisation focuses on various aspects, including health, welfare, education, vocational training/career development, independent living, and employment.

PSDM focuses on complementing existing services rather than duplicating them. Since its inception, PSDM has prioritised providing Early Intervention Programmes (EIP) and Basic Career Training Programmes (PLAK) through Vocational Classes.

Milestones & Facilities

The PSDM headquarters, known as Rumah PSDM, is located on Jalan U-Thant, Kuala Lumpur. Since late 2003, the premises have also housed the operations of a Day Care Centre (PJH), offering various services to individuals with Down syndrome. In April 2013, PSDM expanded its operations to include Taska ANISD (Special Children with Down Syndrome Nursery) in Precinct 11, Putrajaya. Vocational Classes began operating at Rumah PSDM in March 2014. Additionally, PSDM established the Community-Based Rehabilitation Organisation for Down Syndrome (PPDKSD) on 1 March 2020, which had started operations earlier on 1 May 2019.
